Call for Papers Asia-Pacific Conference on Open Education (OpenAP 2026): “Open Futures: Empowering Fair and Inclusive Higher Education in the Asia-Pacific”

The Asia-Pacific Conference on Open Education (OpenAP 2026) aims to establish an international academic forum that brings together researchers, educators, experts, library and information professionals, and policymakers to engage in critical discussions on the role of open education in advancing equitable, inclusive, and sustainable higher education.

The conference is expected to bring together a diverse and dynamic group of participants, serving as a key platform for academic exchange and collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region.

Following the GO-GN Asia-Pacific Hub workshop in Vietnam, the Hub convened its second in-person workshop in Indonesia on 30 December 2025 at the Graduate School of Sustainable Development, University of Indonesia (Universitas Indonesia), Salemba Campus, Jakarta. As the workshop took place at the end of the year, it was planned as a smaller gathering with a more relaxed timetable than the Vietnam event. This created room for relationship building, informal exchange, and sustained cross-institutional discussion, rather than a highly structured programme.

On December 1, 2025, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH), the GO-GN Asia Pacific Conference took place as a special academic space where policymakers, scholars, and educational practitioners analyzed the significant transformations of the Open Education movement in Vietnam in relation to the regional and global context.

With support from colleagues at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Hanoi (VNU USSH Hanoi), the Asia-Pacific Hub successfully hosted its first in-person event in Hanoi on 1 December 2025, titled “GO-GN Asia-Pacific Workshop: Updates on the Open Movement in Vietnam from Research and Practice Perspectives”.

The ACCEES project - ACCélération du développement de l'Écosystème numérique dans l'Enseignement Supérieur vietnamien - Promoting the development of the digital technology ecosystem in higher education in Vietnam, is funded by the European Union with 27 billion VND and is primarily coordinated by the Francophone University Agency and Can Tho University.
